News Media: 10-Year-Old Shot Near Playground In East Chicago
A 10-year-old boy was shot in East Chicago, Indiana, Friday night, according to fire officials. It’s understood the shooting incident took place in the 3700-block of Alder Street. The child was said to have been near a playground in Callahan Park when it happened.
The exact circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear and officials have not said where the boy was hit by gunfire. Monica Vega said:
“There’s nothing we can do about crime, its everywhere and it’s not gonna stop.”
Even though the boy was taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital, he’s condition remains unknown.
Witnesses say the park was filled with children as at the time of the shooting. Friday was the last day of school for most of the area children.
