Health News: Diabetes And Hypertension Drug Combo Kills Cancer Cells
There’s a bit of good news coming from the journal Cell Reports. A drug combination that kills cancer cells and used in the treatment of diabetes and hypertension, has been discovered.
The combination kills cancer cells by depleting them of energy. The drug lowers blood sugar by slowing the release of glucose from the liver and the absorption of sugar from food in the gut. It treats insulin resistance by sensitizing the body’s cells to insulin. The drug is also said to treat obesity as well as for weight loss in people who do not have diabetes or prediabetes. That’s not all the super drug is capable of. Researchers claim it improves fertility, regulate menstrual cycles and physicians prescribe metformin to help treat polycystic ovary syndrome,
Some scientists are even more daring by claiming metformin may improve longevity. It’s understood studies were made using animals and the drug proved to influence the metabolic processes associated with aging and age-related conditions.
