Revealed: Mathew Knowles Extremely Protective Of Destiny’s Child When Working With R. Kelly — “They Did Not Leave Our Eyes”
Mathew Knowles, has disclosed that he and his ex wife Tina, were extremely protective of the group while they worked with R. Kelly on a song which did not even make it onto their debut album. In an interview with. Metro.co.uk, Knowles who was Destiny’s Child’s manager, stated that at the time, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett were teenagers.
According to Knowles, R. Kelly was managed by Sony and his manager at the time and the label would “almost force” other artists to record with theirs.
Since Lifetime aired its Surviving R. Kelly docuseries, the singer has made headlines. Several women who claimed to have been the subject of abuse and predatory behaviour from the R&B singer, featured in the six-part series. There are even those who insist they witnessed inappropriate behaviour between him and his then-underaged protege, the late Aaliyah. Despite all these accusations, R. Kelly still maintains his innocence.
According to Mathew, while working with R. Kelly, the Destiny’s Child didn’t leave his and ex-wife Tina Knowles Lawson’s sight. He said:
“I was there, and my former wife Tina was there.”
“The thing with R. Kelly was, he liked to record late at night, around midnight. And what was different with his studio was that one room had a recording suite, and next door was a club, with 40 or 50 people dancing.”

“They did not leave our eyes.”
On why the song Kelly did with Destiny’s Child did not make it onto their debut album, Beyonce’s father said he felt it wasn’t good enough. He explained:
“I personally rejected the song, because I didn’t think it was a good song.”
“Not just because of [his] reputation — this was around 1998, we had just begun to hear some of those things.'”
However, he admitted that the rumours surrounding the singer affected his decision. He noted, “Certainly, it was both of those things.”
Since Surviving R. Kelly aired, celebrities who have worked with Kelly have apologized. In fact, Lady Gaga said she plans to remove their 2013 song, “Do What U Want (With My Body),” off iTunes and other streaming platforms.
“I stand behind these women 1000%, believe them, know they are suffering and in pain, and feel strongly that their voices should be heard and taken seriously,” Gaga began her lengthy statement.
“What I am hearing about the allegations against R. Kelly is absolutely horrifying and indefensible.”
The singer said that looking back, her thinking behind “Do What U Want (with My Body)” was “explicitly twisted.” She explained that she made the song and video “at a dark time” in her life, and that her “intention was to create something extremely defiant and provocative because I was angry and still hadn’t processed the trauma that had occurred in my own life.”
