Latest News USA: Queens Woman Ermisna Theodore Celebrates 112th Birthday
A 112-year-old Queens woman identified as Ermisna Theodore, celebrated her 112th birthday on Thursday with family at Beach Gardens Rehab and Nursing Center. It’s gathered that Ermisna who is bleszed with five sons and dozens of grandkids, in addition to many great grandchildren, came to the US from Haiti. She was born in 1907.
“We are very blessed to have her,” Ben-Oni Theodore, one of Ermisna’s many grandsons, said. “She is basically the bridge to back home where my parents came from.”
Granddaughter Sarah Theodore was also there.
“She practically raised each and everyone of us,” she said. “She didn’t have much education and her life was hard. but without her, none of us would be here.”
It was only recently that Ermisna stopped walking. Her secret to old age?
“She ate healthy, she was around a lot of family, gave a lot of love. She kept active,” granddaughter Miriam Adelson said.
Attendees at the party gave Theodore birthday wishes in Creole, according to Pix11
“She’s an icon in the Haitian community,” Jocelyn Mayas, the founder of The Empowerment Center for Caribbean Immigrants, said.
