Ross Barkley Will Like To Meet His Nigerian Father
Just in case you didn’t know, Ross Barkley, 25, was born to a Nigerian father, Peter Effanga and a British mother, Diane Barkley.
However, the Chelsea attacking midfielder chose his mother’s maiden name ‘Barkley’ because he had a strained relationship with his dad while growing up. In a recent interview on his life and career, the England international said he would love to meet his father.
”Maybe the one thing I will like to add to my career if I can is to meet with my father. He is a Nigerian who left my mother while I was still very young and since then I haven’t set my eyes on me”, Barkley said.
In other Ross Barkley news, the midfielder is currently being trolled on Twitter after his incredible 5km time sparked a hilarious online challenge as runners pretend to break world records.
The Chelsea footballer claims to have run a 16 minute, 11 second 5km, but Twitter users question if the moving time matches the elapsed time. Mind you, that’s just over 3:30 slower than the world record (12:37.35).
However, those who are familiar with running apps began to question the feat. They felt Barkley’s time appeared too good to be true. On apps, like Strava, the clock stops when the runner stops. In the end, you are given two times – moving time, and elapsed time.
So eyes began to probe deeper into Barkley’s ‘incredible achievement’ and concluded that the footballer was doing an interval session. His moving time was 16:11, but his total elapsed time was 1:05:23.
By the time this was pointed out, Barkely’s achievement was being hailed by the Chelsea Twitter account and sections of the UK media.
