It will do you a lot of good if you have other sources of income aside the main one you have. Firstly, this will help you deal with any disappointment of job loss or significant cut down on salary or money that comes into your account.
It is financially risky to rely on just a job for all your incoming cash as failure to have other avenues of making money, could be looked at as being planless.
