News Media: 12-Year-Old Girl Accidentally Shot Dead By Her Brother In Horn Lake
A 12-year-old girl has accidentally been shot dead by her brother, 12, at a home on the 3700 block of Conrail Circle, Horn Lake, Mississippi. The incident reportedly happened on Monday in an unsupervised home with many children playing there.
According to Deputy Chief Scott Brown, when the police arrived at the home, they found the girl in a bedroom with a single gunshot wound. It’s gathered that the girl’s brother sustained injury as the bullet first traveled through his hand before striking his sister, who later died from her injuries at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. Brown said:
“There was no adults inside of the residence. There may have been one outside of the residence.”
The police are still trying to figure out who owns the gun and how the girl’s brother was able to get hold of it. Brown said the Horn Lake Police Department offers free gun locks to anyone who asks so people should secure their weapons.
“All you have to do is come up to the station and ask for a gunlock. Lock your weapons up, especially if you have kids in the residence,” Brown said.
So far, no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the shooting, but police said it’s possible that could change.
