Diddy And Daughters Grace The Cover of ESSENCE, Opens Up About Loving And Losing Kim Porter
Sean “Diddy” Combs covers Essence magazine to mark their 49th anniversary and he does so in style including his daughters, actually his children. The music mogul admits to being a good dad even though he considers himself more as a part-time dad.
According to Diddy, he’s had to be a daily parent having adopted that role since the death of Kim Porter whom he shares twins D’Lila and Jessie and son Christian. Additionally, Sean Combs raised Porter’s eldest child Quincy, 27, and considers him a son. He told Surviving R. Kelly producer Dream Hampton, who talked to him for Essence:
“Before this, I was a part-time father, you know? My family was always first, but there are countless times when I chose work over everything else. “
“But every day I can hear her telling me to go and spend some time with the kids and make sure everybody’s all right, like she would do. I’m just a lot more present, and, most important, now my kids come before anything else in my life…”
Diddy also revealed the frantic efforts he made in ensuring his kids didn’t find out about Kim’s death on social media saying he jumped into “mommy mode” when he was told. The “I’ll Be Missing You” hitmaker also disclosed what Porter said in their last conversation.
“Three days before she passed, she wasn’t feeling well. She had the flu, and she sent the kids over to my house so they wouldn’t get sick. One night I was checking on her, and she was like, ‘Puffy, take care of my babies.”
“She actually said that to me before she died.”
According to Diddy, Kim’s spirit helps the family cope after her death. He also added that her example as a loving mother lives on in their children who appear to cope better than he does. The family stays upbeat thanks to the support of all his children’s mothers and family friends.
