“I Want My Music To Have An African And Nigerian Influence” — Rose May Alaba
You may not have known until now, Bayern Munich star, David Alaba, has an absolutely gorgeous sister who is a singer/songwriter. Austrian born Nigerian music talent, Rose May Alaba, has returned home because she wants her music to have an African and Nigerian influence. The 23-year-old has already captured the Austrian music space by making an impact at the Austria Music Awards. It gets even better for May. She also wrote and performed the theme song of the 2017 Special Olympic World Winter Games in Europe. This has added to her confidence as she now believes she’s the next big thing to happen to the Nigerian music industry.
Rose May Alaba in a chat with Showtime, explained why she has returned to her fatherland. She said:
“I was born and raised in Austria but I’m proud to be home, back to my roots. I want to work with artistes, producers and songwriters I have been listening to while in Austria. I am back to Nigeria because I want my music to have an African and Nigerian influence.”
Her father, George Alaba, discovered her talent at an early age. Then, he was a recording artiste and Disc Jockey. He enrolled Rose in a piano school which helped enhance her music career while he worked at Lagos-based Tabansi Records.
Rose who is excited to be in Nigeria, already has four singles, ‘All of This is You’, ‘Love Me Right, Can You Feel it, and the latest ‘Take Your Time’, to her credit. She looks forward to working with big name artistes like Tiwa Savage and Wizkid. She said:
“There are quite a lot of artistes I look forward to work with; Davido is on top of my list, Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, the big ones in the industry generally.”
