Those of you who are big fans of Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko will agree with us that she is one of the most talented and versatile actresses in the Nigerian movie industry. The Drama Doll, as she is fondly called, has millions of fans across the world who appreciate her contributions and they look forward to her social media posts to either get some inspiration, stay updated on her latest movies or just want to know what is going on in her personal life. The AFTER 1970 star recently disclosed via her Instagram page that grace in a woman has more effect than beauty.
She wrote;
“Grace in a woman has more effect than beauty. LET HIS GRACE SPEAK IN OUR LIVES IN JESUS NAME AMEN.”
While there are those that might want to point to a woman’s beauty, there are still others who insist that grace beats beauty. Destiny Etiko clearly falls under this category. However, if her comment section is taken seriously, it appears most people give credit to her beauty and most of the praises are pointing towards that direction.
Before we get into this debate, it important to note that “Etiko Nwa” as Frederick Leonard fondly calls her, stated clearly “Grace in a woman”. In other words, the Nollywood actress was quite specific in the gender that she was referring to and not the male.
To be fair, many will agree that a man’s look doesn’t really matter as long as he is financially stable and spends on his woman. So, those actors have to depend mostly on their acting skills.
For you to be able to make a decision on whether it is grace has more effect than beauty especially as it relates to Etiko, you would have go all the way back to early life and career which started in 2011 at the age of 22. There’s no doubt that she is a household name after starring in movies like Idemili (2014), and Daughters of Eagle (2022) among others. She has also picked up several awards.
It has always been her dream to become an actress like her mother.
To appreciate how far she has come not only in her career but in life, it is important to look at some of the challenges and obstacles that the thespian has faced and overcome. Firstly, Etiko was born in a poor family. In fact, the home she grew up in hardly had a roof and so when it rains, the get soaked and they lose so much from it. She’s had to struggle through her education but persevered. Her pictures then didn’t necessarily depict her as a very beautiful woman but didn’t she still forge ahead in the university and make it?
Regarding her early career, she never gave up despite facing challenges. Mind you, social media was non-existent – at least not what it is used to be today. It was strictly talent and hard work to get noticed.
If you recall, Destiny Etiko made it clear in an interview with Saturday Beats her body didn’t make her. Here’s what she mentioned:
‘Having a nice shape was not what made me popular, whether you’re {} or not you must have content. You can’t be a star by being beautiful or fair or voluptuous. Sexiness and beauty can only make people like you but it won’t keep you there for long.
My “s??iness” didn’t give me any special privilege, although it’s an added advantage. Another thing that helped me is that I carry grace. When you have the grace to make it, no one can stop you. When you look around, there are some actors and actresses that are not fine but there is something about them that makes them successful. ‘
Personally, we at AmeboBook believe Destiny Etiko when she says it’s grace that has got her this far in life. It definitely has more effect than beauty. After all, grace can generally be regarded as a quality that can make anyone successful. It can also make the person happy, receive favor from unexpected people and they will get plenty of respect regardless of their physical appearance – whether beautiful or not, physically challenged or not. There are a lot of gorgeous ladies out there that are still struggling but can’t make it in life.
