There likely will be tension in areas of Nigeria as today marks the anniversary of the #EndSARS protests which turned violent on October 20, 2020, when soldiers and policemen reportedly shot at the protesters at the Lekki tollgate area.
If you recall, there were protests across different parts of the country as fed up people reacted to the police brutality by the personnel of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
The protesters also kicked against bad governance in Nigeria.
While reacting to the EndSARS protest a year after, Ruth Kadiri took to her Instagram page to advise the police, soldiers and others in authority not to allow politicians take away their conscience.
The popular Nollywood actress also stated clearly that if the government really cared about the police, they would not be suffering with the low salaries.
She wrote:
“Endear
“One year later. The government refuses to take responsibility for the lives lost. I have heard people say nobody died. Some even say, o the youths didn’t do the right thing. We all forget it’s not. About the toll gate. It’s about injustice it’s about the fact you can sit at home and a stray bullet can hit you, and no one would take responsibility. It’s about the fact that your child can be a victim. Don’t look away. You are part of the problem. #betternigeria.
“Dear policemen, soldiers, etc. stop allowing these old men, use you in the name of the law to break the law. Stop allowing cowards. We are all on the same side. If they cared for you your salaries would be better. Your families would live better. Don’t sell your conscience for money that is your right. Do not be a SLAVE.”
