It’s not something you hear of everyday that people celebrate divorce let alone throwing parties to mark the event. Well, that’s exactly what Michelle Mahoney and her ex-husband, Jeff Becerra, did after 24 years of marriage. The sad part of it all is that their daughter Emma Becerra helped her mum plan the event which she described as “very fun.”
According to Buzzfeed, the divorced parents Michelle and Jeff who have two daughters Rylie, 20, and Emma, 18, took around two months of planning to have this “Divorce Party”.
Mahoney told BuzzFeed News:
“I was with my ex for 24 years and we know how to throw a great party”.
According to Michelle, the party was organised in part to dispel potential discomfort for family and friends and “to help them understand we are the same people, that there should be no awkwardness”.
On Saturday, December 17, Emma, the couple’s youngest daughter, took to Twitter to share the event her family was celebrating.
