Not Knowing Traditions: Fans Come For John Dumelo After Seeing Photo Of Him Without Wedding Ring
The Ghanaian actor got married to Gifty Mawunya Nkornu at a traditional marriage ceremony on May 12, 2018. Despite that, the lovebirds are yet to announce plans for the white wedding. John Dumelo shared a photo on his Instagram page. He was seen behind a glass desk writing on a piece of paper with the caption, ‘Dear God’.
The internet being what it is, fans immediately came for John Dumelo when they realized he was not wearing any wedding ring in the photo. They quizzed:
@korblalasborn cheekily asked, “I heard you are married to a sister can’t see the ring though”
@lawbizz_world wasn’t left out of asking questions, “Where is ur wedding band @johndumelo1 …..itx too early for u to forget it @home o”
@nhenhefreedom asked “My brother thought u got married just a couple of days ago… Where’s the ring on Ur finger”
@chinyerediala saw the hilarious side of things and teased, “Dear God, where is his wedding ring?”
@lovelandmartey also asked “Were is ur weddin ring?”
@onna.dey.357 tried to defend Dumelo, “He is married he does not have to prove nothing to you guys by showing his ring go find your own husband and stop day dreaming he is taken”
It wasn’t until an explanation came that was acknowledged by John Dumelo did people begin to realize they didn’t even know their own traditions.
@karenkashkane explained, “Dear God, may our people know their tradition, Amen. Lol. A lot of people don’t even know that for traditional marriages, it is only the man that gives the woman a ring. It is only marraige under the ordinance or a white wedding that the woman gives the man a ring too.”
To back this John Dumelo responded to her.
Meanwhile, John Dumelo and Mawunya’s union is recognized as a customary marriage. It’s understood the actor can even marry more than one wife as things stand now.
