In the past, the white hair on the elderly commanded a lot of respect. When they speak, the younger ones would listen attentively because of the experience they would have gathered over the years.
When asked questions by the elderly or you are being addressed by them, the younger ones are expected to adjust their sitting position into a respectful position and a reply with a calm tone is only stating the obvious.
Things appear to be changing really fast as the younger ones use social media to be disrespectful to the elderly.
In a new Instagram post, Patience Ozokwo disclosed that people take to the comment section of her posts to be disrespectful to her.
In fact, the Nollywood actress appeared to insinuate that people have started age-shaming her.
She wrote:
“When did old age stop being a blessing?
People do all manner of stuff to cover up aging – good for them!
I own my age and experience with my full chest and count it an enormous blessing.
Comments like:
She now looks so old
She don old suddenly
She don old finish
Ahaa Mama what happened
Make me smile.
Aging is not unattractive or undesirable.
Life is fleeting. Enjoy the years you’ve been blessed with fully. I am not afraid to look/be old. I am not worried about being in any exclusive league or being validated by people’s opinion.
Respect the elderly”
