It’s no longer news that a 22-year-old 100-level Microbiology student of the University of Benin, Uwa Omozuwa, was beaten, raped and hit with a fire extinguisher by unknown men on Wednesday , 27th May, 2020. She had gone to The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Edo Province 10, Ikpoba Hill, Benin, to read when she was brutally attacked and eventually died at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), in the state. Since then, Nigerians have been outraged and the hashtag #JusticeForUwa trending in Nigeria.
Several celebrities have taken to their social media pages to demand for Justice for Uwa and Tina Ezekwe, a 16-year old girl, who was shot to death at Iyana-Oworo area of Lagos, by the police.
One of those to react is Ini Edo who expressed her anger on her Instagram page. She wrote:
“I just cannot comprehend how evil and cold hearted a human being can be towards a fellow already helpless human being..what could this girl have done to deserve this level of brutality and wickedness from a fellow human being? The hate ,the bitterness,the anger is killing us….Even justice can not repay this loss…R.I.P”.
In another post, the Nigerian actress stressed on the need to teach and show compassion. She wrote:
“We need to teach ,preach,impact love and compassion into the world .. Too much bitterness, No love for one another …if only we could be more compassionate towards one another,more kind and thoughtful ,this world be probably be a better place”.
