Ugezu J. Ugezu has taken to his Instagram page to call for it to be made an offence if influencers try to influence others with products that they are not using.
The highly respected filmmaker suggested this as one of the many ways to heal the land (Nigeria) as he feels it will checkmate many things.
Social media especially Instagram has been taken over by the so called influencers especially the Nollywood celebs who appear to be in competition with each other over who has the most endorsements.
These days, you will hardly see any of their film projects on their pages but very annoying posts in which they try to influence their millions of fans across the world to purchase these products which they themselves do not use or hardly even know about.
They deliberately try to lead the their unsuspecting fans into believing they use these products and it’s what works for them.
Meanwhile, it’s all a business transaction.
While reacting to these, Ugezu posted;
“ONE OF THE MANY WAYS TO START HEALING OUR LAND.
Let it be made a criminal offence for Influencers to boldly influence people to use what they are not using. This, in my considered view, will checkmate many things.
