Black Panther Actor Michael B Jordan Weighs In On Colourism Debate After Beyonce Dad Comments
Matthew Knowles had earlier suggested in a recent interview that most successful black female artists are those who are lighter-skinned, including daughters Beyonce and Solange. Speaking at the premiere of Black Panther in London, Michael B. Jordan, who plays Erik in the Marvel film, admitted that although he hadn’t heard about Knowles’ remarks, it was important to have a discussion on the subject. He said:
“I didn’t hear about that. I’ve been in kind of in a hole.
“But representation is important period, so being able to identify with yourself on screen in all the lanes of the industry, whether it be music, film, behind the camera, in front of the camera, I think it’s extremely important, so as long as the discussion is being had and people are talking about it, that’s a type of progression there.
