Australia’s Youngest Snake Catcher Jensen Harrison
At any given age, catching snakes can be challenging. But not so for this boy. Meet Australia’s youngest snake catcher Jensen Harrison. Jensen Harrison, who turns two in April, is the son of professional snake catchers. He even went on his first mission aged 24 hours old accompanying his mother on assignments even before he could talk or walk.
It’s understood that one of Jensen Harrison’s favourite topics is snakes. Yes, you read correctly! Jensen’s father, Gold Coast resident Tony Harrison, even admitted that his son has always been obsessed with reptiles and that his favourite pet, a snake, is a woma python named Derrick.
However, the little boy is forbidden from handling venomous snakes. Tony also disclosed that teaching a child about snake safety is not unlike other forms of child-rearing. He said:
‘I always put it like this: You’re not going to avoid giving your son cordial, because he might then go and drink the colourful stuff that’s under the sink.’
‘You make sure the kid doesn’t eat or drink the wrong stuff,’ and the same principle goes for handling reptiles”.
Now that it is peak season for catching snakes, the Tony and wife, Brooke Harrison catch about 10 snakes daily. However, after the snakes are caught, they are eventually released in the bush.
