Cleveland Heights police officers were first to arrive at the scene of a fire on Greyton Road early Saturday morning only to learn that the homeowner’s six-year-old son was trapped inside the smoke-filled home. One brave Ohio officer identified as Patrolman Josh Robertson did not hesitate to crawl under the heavy smoke and began searching for the child despite being unable to see anything. However, he could hear the boy moaning so he felt his way around until he found the unconscious child and pulled him out of the burning house.
Robertson himself was overcome from the effects of smoke inhalation.
The child’s family and first responders were relieved when the boy began breathing on this own. They knew this was a really close call. Robertson said, “I couldn’t see him, but I was just like looking…yeah…and I just grabbed him by the shirt and I started yanking man.”
The boy was taken to Hillcrest Hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery because of the quick actions of Patrolman Robertson.
