WTF! Two Friends Connived To Steal Gold From A Shrine At Wiamoase In The Ashanti Region
Kwabena Mensah, 19, and Akwasi Agyei, 36 are in police net after the two friends connived to steal gold from a shrine at Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region. It’s understood they stole the precious mineral which weighs about 1.20 kilograms and worth GHC174,000 while it was undergoing spiritual purification at the shrine belonging to Kwabena’s sister.
However, the gods are reported to have revealed Kwabena Mensah to the fetish priestess as the suspect which eventually led to his arrest by the police. He later led police to his Mason friend, Akwasi Agyei, for being the man he gave the gold to for safe keeping.
According to reports, the owner of the 22-carat gold had brought it to the shrine on July 31, 2017 for purification rituals before sold to a dealer in Kumasi.
Detective Chief Inspector Emmanuel Nyamekye disclosed that Kwabena Mensah overheard discussions between the fetish priest, Lovia Cobbina, who is the complainant and a customer who brought the gold for purification rites. He then stole it and gave it to the second accused, Agyei for safe keeping.
It wasn’t until August 6, 2017, when the owner came to retrieve the gold that the priestess discovered it was missing.
Detective Nyamekye told the Nsuta Circuit Court the gods after consultations, revealed to the priestess that her brother, Mensah, stole the gold. The incident was then reported to the Wiamoase police who arrested the first accused for interrogation.
Akwasi Agyei has admitted he collected the gold from his friend Mensah but has failed to produce it.
Whilst the former pleaded not guilty, the latter has pleaded guilty.
The court presided over by Ms. Lydia Osei Marfo, remanded the two friends in prison custody on Thursday.
Kwabena Mensah and Akwasi Agyei are expected to re-appear before the court on August 31, 2017.
