It is no longer news that a social media influencer, Dr Olufunmilayo, disclosed that the Lagos State House of Assembly “is developing a bill to regulate and control speech on social media” and that Desmond Elliot “is said to be one of those pushing it”.
The actor/politician denied this in a video he released.
However, a video of Elliott has now been made public showing him call on the Lagos State House of Assembly to “address certain things” like “the Nigerian youth, the social media, the social influencers.”
Since then, Desmond Elliot has been trending across social media with several celebrities reacting to what he said.
One of those to react is Belinda Effah. The Nollywood actress stated clearly the importance of social media and how it stopped the Federal Government from burying the Lekki Toll Gate Massacre. She posted:
“Without Social Media the Nigerian Government would have buried the lekki Toll Gate Massacre killings and made us all look like we imagined it!!”
Effah captioned the post;
“They are Trying With All Their Might To Silence Us – Should We Fold Our Arms and Allow Them? 👇🏽
Social Media is Our Voice 🤘🏽✊”.
