Syrian Artist Abdalla Al Omari Re-imagined US President Donald Trump And Other World Leaders As Refugees
A Syrian artist Abdalla Al Omari has created a series of paintings in his Brussels studio showing world leaders like Donald Trump, Barack Obama, Russian President Vladimir Putin, former British Prime Minister David Cameron and former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as refugees in his “The Vulnerability Series”.
Abdalla Al Omari is reported to have spent 19 months creating the series of paintings currently on display in Dubai. Trump is portrayed as a refugee holding a young child; his belongings such as a photo of his family clutched in his right hand and a sleeping mat on his back. Russian President Vladimir Putin was portrayed as a beggar.
In another painting entitled The Queue, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and former US President Barack Obama are all seen waiting for food.
“People are sometimes too fond of their politicians. They cannot see them fall off their thrones. They cannot see them weak,” Al Omari told CNN.
According to Abdalla Al Omari, his intention was not to disrespect world leaders, but to “give them back their humanity”.
“Somehow my aim shifted from an expression of anger that I had…to a more vivid desire to disarm my figures, to picture them outside their positions of power.”
