Naija Gist: Ex-BBA Contestant Tayo Faniran Accuses AKA Of Xenophobia
Kiernan Jarryd Forbes who is known professionally as AKA, has been accused by Ex-BBA contestant, Tayo Faniran, of xenophobia. The “Congratulate” rapper took to Twitter to rant after Nigeria mauled South Africa in the AFCON 2019 quarter final match. His statement has since been interpreted by many Nigerians as a call to incite and support xenophobia. In fact, Tayo shared a screenshot of AKA’s tweets on Instagram and stated that they were xenophobic statements and the rapper was wrong for using his platform to promote division.
Tayo Faniran also demanded that the South African hip hop star tenders an apology to Nigerians as football should be a game of unity and not of division.
Meanwhile, there is talk that AKA wasn’t even particularly concerned that South Africa lost to Nigeria on a patriotic level but rather, he lost a BET award to Burna Boy a short while back. If you recall, Teni and Burna were nominated for awards in the Black Excellence Television awards show, while Teni didn’t get the award, Burna, made many Nigerians proud when he won the award for Best International Act.
