Current News Headlines: Texas Woman Poured Alcohol On 5-Year-Old Stepdaughter’s Face And Set It On Fire
Grand Prairie police have arrested a woman accused of pouring alcohol on her 5-year-old stepdaughter’s face and then using a lighter to set it on fire.
Initially, Dalia Jimenez, 20, had told the authorities who responded to reports of a child with burns on May 13, that the girl was hurt while trying to light a candle, according to KTVT. However, after investigators quizzed her about several inconsistencies, Jimenez allegedly admitted to dousing the girl in rubbing alcohol and using a lighter to set fire to her face.
When asked on why she did it, Jimenez told police the 5-year-old had been “yelling previously in the home,” KTVT reports. Her stepdaughter suffered burns on her cheeks down to her jawline, with smaller burns on her shoulders.
Grand Prairie Detective Greg Parker said during a press conference that Jimenez is believed to have left the girl’s injuries untreated for two days.
He said when investigators arrived, the child was in a great mood, running around and playing with her younger sibling. But, she did complain that her face was hurting.
“We were made aware on scene that there was prior CPS history. That the girl had suffered a broken arm in 2018, so we decided to move forward with a forensic interview,” Det. Parker said.
When interviewed, the child told investigators that her stepmother hit her repeatedly with a belt and burned her. The injured child along with her younger sibling, have been removed by Child Protective Services from the home. They are now safe with other family members.
The children’s father who was not home at the time, is not expected to face any charges.
Meanwhile, Jimenez was released from the Grand Prairie jail after paying bond.
