A man in black suit shouting “Allahu Akbar, Don’t Forget Aleppo” has shot dead the Russian Ambassador, Andrey Karlov, in an Ankara shooting while the diplomat was visiting an art exhibition in the capital, Ankara.
According to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, the smartly dressed gunman who wore a suit and tie, has been ‘neutralised’. He was clearly heard shouting: ‘We die in Aleppo, you die here!’ Even though Andrey Karlov was taken to hospital, he died. One of the important things said by the gunman was, “Only death will remove me from here. Everyone who has taken part in this oppression will one by one pay for it”. This simply means the shooter knew he was on a suicide mission and that he wouldn’t be living the scene of the shooting alive.
Mr Karlov was about to deliver a speech at the opening of the exhibition on ‘Russia in the eyes of Turks’.
The gunman is believed to have been a 22-year-old policeman. He was shot dead by the authorities. The Ambassador was shot five times in his back.
