Latest Hip Hop News And Gossip: Common Speaks On Why He Can’t Hold Down A Romantic Relationship
Only recently, Common released Let Love Have The Last Word memoir and it has given him a better opportunity to connect with fans having become vulnerable with the public. He disclosed being molested as a child with the intention of being able to help others who have endured similar experiences. The Chicago legend during an interview with The Breakfast Club, said while in therapy, he discovered why he can’t hold down a romantic relationship. He said:
“The pattern I found myself in—and my therapist broke it down—was the feeling of being in love and that honeymoon period. I was addicted to that feeling.”
Despite being one of hip hop’s most eligible bachelors, Common isn’t married. It’s true he has been romantically linked to the likes of Erykah Badu, Serena Williams, Taraji P. Henson, Regina Hall, Laura Dern, and Angela Rye, it hasn’t quite worked out the way it should be. He said:
“When that feeling would go away and the real part of the relationships came, I was like, ‘OK. Do I want this or not?’ I wasn’t ready to do the work.”
The rapper also told the hosts that he is more of of a pursuit-of-love addict and not a s*x addict. He stated:
“I obviously care for the person, but when things got tough and it was time to work through stuff, I wasn’t willing to work through it.”
“It’s also a process and a journey to get to understanding how to be full in a relationship, and be a full and complete person as much as possible.”
Adding it’s “fun to have a partner who you can really enjoy and can be really friends [with].”
